Chelsea held preliminary talks over the transfer of Bayern Munich’s striker Robert Lewandowski ahead of the transfer window.

The Sun claim that Chelsea have made contact with the Polish international over a transfer to replace the outgoing Diego Costa.

The Poland international signed a new deal with Bayern in December which will expire in the summer of 2021 but Lewandowski is currently unhappy with the club and even criticised his team-mates earlier this month.

Lewandowki prefers moving to London rather than Manchester as United are also interested.

His agent, Malik Barthel said: “Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach [Carlo Ancelotti] gave no call to help him in the last game to win the top scorer title.

“He was disappointed as I have ever seen him before. He really hoped that the team support him proactively.”

Chelsea are trying to capitalise on this and have made an enquiry, though they are still interested in signing Romelu Lukaku.

Lewandowski scored 43 goals for Bayern Munich in all competitions last season.
