Manchester United are closing in on their first signing of the summer after triggering the release clause of Diogo Dalot.
The Porto right-back is set to become Jose Mourinho ’s first major signing this summer as the he works to add quality to his defence.
Manchester United triggered the £17million release clause in the 19-year-old’s contract and will make the signing official in the coming days, the Telegraph claim.
Dalot has agreed personal terms with United and will compete with Antonio Valencia for a first-team place.
The teenager only broke in Porto’s first-team this campaign, but is in the last year of his current deal.
United regard him as a big prospect and have made a move quickly to avoid a bidding war.
Dalot attracted the attentions of top European clubs and Porto have turned down several offers for his signature in the last 12 months.
All those bids were below the release clause, United is the first club to trigger his exit as Mourinho is on the hunt for several new defenders with another full-back also in plans.
The United boss wants to add star names to his backline, and they are hopeful Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld will make the transfer to Old Trafford.
