Steven Gerrard makes bid to sign Chelsea star Billy Gilmour for Rangers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is keen on signing Billy Gilmour from Chelsea and feels he can persuade him to return to Ibrox on loan next season.

Gilmour moved to Chelsea in 2017 for a fee of around £500,000, which was a compensation package owed to Rangers for producing the playmaker.

The Scottish midfielder has found first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge limited in the last two years, playing just 11 Premier League matches.

Chelsea have no doubts about Gilmour’s potential but they feel he needs regular first-team football to continue his development and Tuchel has agreed to send him out on loan next campaign.

Wolves and Norwich are also believed to be interested in Gilmour but the Daily Record claim Rangers have entered the race and hope to tug on the Scot’s heartstrings.

Gilmour is a boyhood Rangers supporter and would certainly start for Gerrard, who guided the club to the title last season.

However, Chelsea would rather Gilmour stayed in the Premier League to gain more experience in England but they will liaise with the player over his wishes.

The London club view Gilmour as a long-term replacement for Jorginho but Tuchel doesn’t feel he is ready to be a first-team regular.
