Erik ten Hag to sell four Man Utd players to make way for new signing

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has sanctioned the sale of four first-team stars this summer after the club held discussions to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

The 22-year-old right-back is a major priority for Ten Hag, who wants to add more attacking quality to his defence.

Frimpong, who is a product of Manchester City’s academy, joined Leverkusen from Celtic two years ago and he has established himself as one of the best attacking full-backs in Europe.

Ten Hag spent £220million last summer window and he’s keen to sign a top-level centre forward this summer.

But the Red Devils are walking a Financial Fair Play tightrope and the club must sell off some assets if Ten Hag is to sign the players he wants.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United will offload Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Brandon Williams and Alex Telles in order to raise funds.

While the departures of Telles, Williams and Bailly are expected, Maguire’s exit would be the most controversial.

The England international joined United from Leicester for a fee of £80m in 2019 and was installed as captain only six months later.

But, he has lost his place this campaign to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Though Ten Hag likes Maguire, but tough decisions must be made and he believes he has enough cover in central defence, while Frimpong’s arrival would enhance the way the Dutchman wants to play.
