Manchester City have turned down a bid from Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez, as Chelsea are reportedly interested in acquiring the Argentine forward.
The reports from Spain indicate that Alvarez, who has just completed his second season at City with 19 goals, is contemplating a move to increase his visibility, recognizing that he will remain in Erling Haaland’s shadow at City.

Alvarez, who has made 54 appearances across all competitions and was the eighth-highest outfield player in terms of minutes played for City, is aware that Atletico Madrid has approached City regarding a potential transfer.
However, City has categorically refused to entertain the idea. It is also noted that even if City were to consider selling Alvarez, Atletico would find the minimum bid of €80 million (£67.9m) before add-ons prohibitive.
Having joined City from River Plate for £14m in 2022, Alvarez still has three years remaining on his contract.
Despite City’s reluctance to sell, Chelsea are preparing to make their own bid for Alvarez.
Chelsea’s recent signings from City, including Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling, and the transfer of Mateo Kovacic to City last summer, suggest a positive relationship between the two clubs.
However, convincing City to release Alvarez could be challenging due to his demonstrated versatility and goal-scoring prowess.
Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in signing Alvarez as they look for a successor to Kylian Mbappe, who has moved to Real Madrid.
PSG has also considered Victor Osimhen as an option but faces the hurdle of Napoli’s €130 million (£110.8m) release clause demand for the Nigerian international.
Chelsea have decided against pursuing Osimhen due to the steep financial requirements.
