Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as a potential target for the next summer transfer window, according to reports.
Last summer, Newcastle United identified Guehi as their primary defensive target, but they were unable to secure his signature due to Palace’s refusal to lower their £70 million valuation.
The 24-year-old, who has earned 22 caps for England, recently received praise from interim England manager Lee Carsley, who described him as “fast and aggressive.”
Chelsea, Guehi’s former club, have now shown interest in bringing him back, aiming to capitalize on a potential reduced transfer fee next summer.
According to talkSPORT, Guehi’s contract with Palace expires at the end of the next season, and the defender has not shown urgency in agreeing to an extension.
Guehi, a familiar face at Stamford Bridge, spent 14 years in Chelsea’s academy before departing in 2021.
Despite making only two senior appearances for the Blues, he developed significantly during his loan spell at Swansea City before his move to Palace.
Since joining Crystal Palace, Guehi has delivered consistently impressive performances, earning a place in the England national team.
Carsley, reflecting on Guehi’s leadership skills, remarked: “I made Marc captain when I was in charge of the Under-21s. He’s a player who has shown leadership qualities throughout his career so far.
‘His maturity [is evident] not only on the pitch but off the pitch. he’s moving in the right direction in terms of his quality.
‘He’s playing really well at Palace in the games that I have seen and he’s moving in the right direction in terms of his quality.
‘I still think there is a lot more to come from Marc. Physically, he’s fast and he’s aggressive.
‘On the ball, he is excellent as well so he just needs to keep improving. There’s good competition for places in that centre-back position but Marc is definitely worthy of his position.’
