Atletico Madrid are set to complete the signing of Benfica star Joao Felix and an announcement could be made on this could be made in the next few hours.
Los Rojiblancos have won the race for the Portuguese youngster, beating the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United to his signature.
Joao Felix’s transfer was first reported on May 17 and Atletico will now pay his 120 million euro release clause to bring the Portugal international to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitan.
This huge fee would see Felix become Atletico’s record signing ahead of Thomas Lemar €72m fee.
Spending so much on a 19-year-old is certainly a gamble from the board but, with Antoine Griezmann leaving the club this summer, Felix will become the team’s talisman in attack.
However, That same fee will be how much Antoine Griezmann will cost Spanish giants Barcelona when his release clause drops to that price on July 1.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Joao Felix may already be in Madrid ahead of his imminent record breaking move to Atletico.
The Benfica star who scored 15 goals and made 9 assists last campaign will earn €6m per season.
Felix made his full senior debut with Portugal on the 5th June against Switzerland, the semi-final of UEFA Nations League, a competition which his country won eventually.
