Reports suggest that Christopher Nkunku could leave the club this month, as he has not received the playing time he feels he deserves under Enzo Maresca. ..Continue Reading
Nkunku has reportedly attracted interest from Bayern Munich and several other top European clubs.
If Nkunku departs, Chelsea is expected to target Liam Delap, who has impressed as a Premier League striker.
Chelsea witnessed Delap’s abilities firsthand in late 2024 when he scored and caused problems throughout Ipswich’s 2-0 victory over them at Portman Road.
It was initially reported that Delap was committed to finishing the season at Ipswich, and the club is unlikely to want to lose their key player as they battle for Premier League survival.
However, Ben Jacobs has reported that Delap would be willing to move to Stamford Bridge if the opportunity presents itself this month.
He told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea remain extremely keen on Liam Delap. The Ipswich Town striker has eight Premier League goals this season and is expected to be the subject of bids this summer.
“Ipswich are reluctant to sanction a sale in January, but Chelsea are serious contenders for Delap, who is open to a move to Stamford Bridge.”
The majority of striker minutes at Chelsea this season have been given to Nicolas Jackson, who has shown impressive form for much of his second season.
However, club legend John Obi Mikel believes that Chelsea could be genuine title contenders with a different player leading the attack right now.
Liam Delap has played nearly as many minutes as Jackson this season, and his statistics are comparable to the current Chelsea forward, despite being part of a much weaker team.
Any new signing will need to establish a strong connection with Cole Palmer, similar to Jackson’s, as the duo’s on-field relationship continues to flourish through daily interactions.
