Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly the frontrunner to sign the Georgian, as they are in direct talks with Napoli, but Liverpool might try to hijack the deal if they see an opportunity.
Now, Liverpool manager Slot has commented on the rumors and shared his thoughts on whether the club is likely to sign the talented forward.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup Third Round match against Accrington Stanley on Saturday, Slot was asked about the rumors regarding Liverpool’s interest in the Napoli winger.
“99/100 times at the end of the window it’s been clear that almost all of these stories weren’t true. But no comments from my side,” he replied.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein was the first to break the news of the surprising transfer, revealing that Liverpool, PSG, and Chelsea were all contemplating making moves for Kvaratskhelia if it became evident that he was poised to leave Napoli during the January window.
He wrote on social media: “Liverpool could consider move to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia if leaves Napoli in Jan.
“LFC not actively seeking winger but admire 23yo, alert to situation + may contend if becomes market opportunity. PSG and CFC also among interested clubs.”
Earlier today, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Kvaratskhelia is open to departing Napoli this month, with a deal currently being discussed between the Italian club and PSG, involving a transfer fee of approximately €80 million (£66.97m).
The 23-year-old is under contract with the Serie A team until June 2027, which means Napoli is under no pressure to sell him quickly and can take their time to secure the best possible deal.
Since joining Napoli in 2022 from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi, the winger has scored 30 goals and provided 29 assists in 107 appearances.
In the ongoing 24/25 season, Kvaratskhelia has recorded five goals and three assists in 19 matches across all competitions.
