One of Chelsea’s summer acquisitions has been advised to leave Stamford Bridge, as he is perceived to be ‘wasted’ at the Premier League club.
Chelsea continued their lavish spending spree last summer, signing Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Filip Jorgensen, Aaron Anselmino, Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho, and Mike Penders.
While players like Adarabioyo, Neto, and Sancho have had promising starts at Chelsea, others, such as Dewsbury-Hall, have struggled to make an impact. ..Continue Reading
Dewsbury-Hall has yet to start a Premier League match for Chelsea since his £30 million transfer from Leicester City last summer.
The 26-year-old was anticipated to flourish under Maresca, with whom he worked at the King Power Stadium, but his limited playing time has sparked speculation that he might leave after just six months at the club.
New West Ham manager Graham Potter is reportedly interested in signing Dewsbury-Hall, and former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin believes he should consider finding a new club.
‘It’s a real shame to see what has happened to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and it’s quite strange,’ Nevin told Grosvenor Sport. ‘He is a quality player and hasn’t been able to show that.
‘The problem is that he cannot leave it too long sitting out of first-team football because it’s only a short career and it’s being wasted. I’d love to see him playing more often but who could be dropped at Chelsea?
‘Dewsbury-Hall needs to be playing football, full-stop. If I was him I’d push to go out on loan, whether that be West Ham or somewhere else.’
Dewsbury-Hall played over 100 matches for his childhood club Leicester City, playing a crucial role in their return to the Premier League last season as Championship champions.
His impressive performances earned him a spot in both the EFL Championship Team of the Year and the PFA Team of the Season.
After his move to west London, Dewsbury-Hall said: ‘It is amazing to be sitting here as a Chelsea player.
‘This is a club people grow up watching and hoping to one day play for, so it is a privilege to be here.’
While Dewsbury-Hall is struggling for game-time under Maresca, the Italian boss has played down rumours the midfielder could be on the move before the January transfer window closes.
‘At this moment Kiernan is our player and for sure, he has a future with us,’ the head coach said in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Morecambe.
Asked if a loan exit was a possibility, Maresca bluntly replied: ‘No. Also, because, when you want to send players on loan, it has to be from all the sides; the players, the club and the manager.
‘It is not just about what I want. In this moment there is no plan for Kiernan [to leave].
‘For sure, he has to do that [fight for his place], no doubt. I know Kiernan quite well and he is going to do that.’
