Scholes, an Englishman, is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in football history.
The Salford-born legend spent his entire career at Manchester United, rising through the academy ranks to make his senior debut in 1993. ..Continue Reading
During his time with the Red Devils, Scholes amassed a collection of trophies, including 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, and five FA Community Shields.
In total, Scholes made 718 appearances for United, scoring 155 goals across all competitions.
Throughout his career, he played alongside some of the club’s finest players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, and Eric Cantona.
Yet, in a 2024 episode of The Overlap, Scholes named Mark Bosnich as the worst signing in the club’s history.
He explained: “I thought he was a good keeper at Villa, but he came to us, he was so unprofessional.
“Honestly, it was ridiculous. In shooting practice, you normally have like 15/20 shots, after three shots he’s knackered and I never realised, he couldn’t kick a football. Honestly, I’d never seen anything like it.”
Scholes then revealed it took him and his Man United teammates a while to realise just how poor their new goalkeeper was.
“We played Everton in the first game of the season and none of us picked up on it, but he couldn’t even reach the halfway line. There was no wind. It was a perfect day,” he added.
Besides Manchester United, Mark Bosnich also played for Sydney United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Central Coast Mariners, and Sydney Olympic.
The Australian earned a reputation as a reliable Premier League goalkeeper, appearing in over 200 matches for Aston Villa from 1992 to 1999.
Bosnich joined Manchester United in 1999 and later moved to Chelsea in 2001.
Overall, he made 35 appearances for the Red Devils, securing the Premier League title and the Intercontinental Cup.
