However, the goal was nullified as Jan Paul van Hecke was deemed to have fouled Diogo Dalot in the buildup.
“The referee’s call of goal was checked by VAR, who deemed there was a foul by van Hecke on Dalot in the build-up and recommended an on-field review,” a post from the Premier League Match Centre account read. “The referee overturned the original decision and the goal was disallowed.

Joao Pedro’s disallowed goal wasn’t the only instance of VAR intervention in Sunday’s Premier League fixtures. Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenkovic believed he had extended his team’s lead to 4-1 against Southampton, but an offside decision nullified the goal.

“I think the best thing to help the players is to be calm, to try to explain what we need to change. Then we will have time to be angry with them,” the head coach said.
“I think and I say that, today, of course, we didn’t play well. First half, we suffered a lot but I felt some players were tired. And, when they are tired, they are trying and I have the responsibility to try to help them. Sometimes to change them. And that is my part.”
