Currently 26, Osimhen is on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray after falling out of favor with his parent club, Napoli, last summer.
In August 2024, the Nigerian international was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but the Premier League club was reportedly deterred by Napoli’s £113m asking price, according to BBC Sport. ..Continue Reading
This situation left Osimhen in limbo, leading him to sign with Galatasaray as the Turkish transfer window was still open.
Manchester United has been linked with a potential move for Osimhen over the past few seasons, and their fans are now convinced he might join the club this summer after a video of him with a United fan surfaced online.
United supporter and social media personality ‘Trey’ posted a video on TikTok, showing himself with Osimhen and captioning it ‘POV: You convinced Victor Osimhen to sign for Man United’.
In the video, Osimhen can be seen shaking hands and laughing with Trey.
Fans on social media have since shared their reactions to the video.
One said: “I don’t see ANY reason why any player would want to come to United at this stage. The club is clearly in a state of decline.”
A second added: “Top ambitious footballer would want to join United.”
While a third commented: “Man cursed him now even if he joins United, he’ll flop massively.”
Osimhen was close to joining Man United in 2020, according to his brother, Andrew.
“Manchester United wanted Victor [Osimhen], but he told me something like he had too much respect for Odion Ighalo to be competing for shirts with his senior colleague,” Andrew Osimhen told Complete Sports.
“My brother holds Ighalo in high esteem and he just didn’t see himself going to Old Trafford to battle for a striking role with the highest goalscorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.”
Ighalo, who spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Manchester United, has been an inspiration to Osimhen.
Since then, Osimhen has significantly enhanced his overall game and played a crucial role in Napoli’s 2022/23 Serie A title-winning campaign, scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
It’s well-known that Osimhen harbors a strong ambition to play in the Premier League.
“Of course, one day I’d like to play for a big club in England,” he told the Independent in 2020.
“I’ve spoken to Odion [Ighalo] about it. He gave me very good advice, he’s a legend and a big brother. My goal is to play at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
The forward played in yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and was asked whether he will be at the club next campaign by journalist Hasan Tankaya.
“I really love Galatasaray so much,” Osimhen replied.
