Manchester United will be without eight players for their home match against Ipswich on Wednesday night as Ruben Amorim deals with a mounting injury crisis at Old Trafford.
United are eager to return to winning form against the Tractor Boys after three Premier League matches without a victory, but they’ll need to do so with a depleted squad.
The team drew 2-2 against Everton without several key players, and Amorim confirmed in his pre-match press conference that no one will return from injury for the Ipswich game. ..Continue Reading
This means the Portuguese manager will be missing Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, and Toby Collyer, who are not yet fit to play. Additionally, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo are out for the season.
There are also concerns about Noussair Mazraoui, who sustained a knee injury against Everton, and Amorim may have to continue relying on academy prospects to fill his bench.
In the recent games against Everton and Tottenham, Amorim included young talents like Ayden Heaven, Harry Amass, Sekou Kone, Chido Obi-Martin, and Elyh Harrison on his bench.
Speaking ahead of the match, he told the media: “Amad is out for a long time. I think Mason [Mount] continues to make his recovery, Luke [Shaw] continues to make his recovery. I don’t have a day.
“Toby [Collyer] seems to be the closest one but not now. Kobbie is recovering. We have to adapt to use the players that we have for the schedule.”
Amorim will have some optimism for the Ipswich match after watching his players rally to secure a draw through Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
When asked what he told his players to rescue the point, he said: “I just said we are going to play the same way, because during the week I saw a different thing. We are going to do the same thing, no matter what the result [is]. It’s more belief and then the quality in the small things. Like control the ball because men were free.
‘Everybody knew because we watch the games of Everton, we worked during the week and we proved that in the second half. I didn’t change nothing, it was playing the same way with better energy and fight for the second balls.’
