After games, he’s typically seen showing affection to his players, embracing them as they leave the pitch. However, his demeanor off the field can be starkly different.
A recent report reveals Flick’s strict disciplinary approach, emphasizing his demand for total dedication from his team.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, his high standards have occasionally led to confrontations, with one particularly tense incident involving Jules Kounde before Barcelona’s match against Rayo Vallecano.
Kounde arrived late for a vital pre-match meeting at the Torre Melina Gran Melia hotel, prompting Flick to wait by the entrance while the rest of the squad gathered inside.
Upon Kounde’s arrival, Flick reportedly slammed the door and berated the defender, subsequently excluding him from the starting lineup to assert his authority.
The report also mentions that Kounde was likely fined for his tardiness.
This incident isn’t an isolated one, as Kounde reportedly arrived late on two prior occasions in October and November, resulting in him being dropped from the team each time.
Flick’s firm stance on discipline highlights the rigorous expectations he sets for his players, ensuring punctuality and professionalism remain a priority under his leadership.
Speaking in November after the second incident, Flick said: “When I say 13:30 hours, it is neither 13:29 hours nor 13:31 hours.
“Before the game, we have two or three meetings. It is very important that the players are there, and it is not difficult to arrive on time. It’s about respect for your colleagues.
“Arriving late, even by a minute, is a lack of respect for your teammates,” he added.
