Following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October, Amorim was swiftly appointed as his replacement. However, he has faced difficulties in fully implementing his tactical philosophy within the squad.
Looking ahead, reports suggest that United are preparing for an eventful summer transfer window, with several players expected to depart, creating opportunities for new arrivals.
According to The Sun, United have set their sights on Sporting Clube de Portugal’s Francisco Trincão, who previously played under Amorim.
However, Sporting are reportedly determined to drive a hard bargain, demanding a fee exceeding the forward’s £50 million release clause.
Additionally, the situation is further complicated by Trincão’s former club, Barcelona, which is entitled to 50% of his future transfer fee—posing a potential challenge for United.
The report added: “Even if they can be persuaded to sell, Sporting want to recoup at least £35 million.
“But they only get that if United – or another suitor – is prepared to pay twice as much, allowing Barcelona to get a similar share of the proceeds.”
As claimed by Man United in Focus, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has stated the likes of Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have all advised Trincao to make a summer move to Old Trafford.
The report read: “Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have both not been shy about proclaiming the virtues of a move to Old Trafford to their international teammate, but we can also reveal that Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended the move to the former Barcelona starlet.”
Manchester United are back in Premier League action next Tuesday when they take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
