After dropping four points across their last two Premier League outings, Chelsea have made their bid for a return to Champions League football more difficult.
They now sit sixth in the table, one point behind fifth-place Manchester City.
Doubts about Maresca’s future have lingered since the team’s sharp dip in form back in December. Despite the recent struggles, reports suggest that the Chelsea hierarchy still back the Italian coach.
They are said to be impressed by his dedication and are not expected to dismiss him, even if the club falls short of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
A source inside Chelsea has told The Sun: “Everyone at the club is totally on board and committed to getting us back in the Champions League. Enzo, the board and the sporting directors are wedded to that ideal.
“If it doesn’t happen this season there will be questions asked naturally. But as it stands Enzo is still seen as the man to take Chelsea forwards.”
