In a tense and scrappy encounter at San Mames in Bilbao, Spurs secured their fourth victory over United this season, with Brennan Johnson’s late first-half strike proving decisive.
The hard-fought win ended Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a trophy, fulfilling Ange Postecoglou’s promise of delivering silverware in his second season.
United, meanwhile, failed to rise to the occasion, suffering their first loss in this season’s Europa League campaign.
Disappointed by the team’s lack of quality, many United supporters took to social media to call for the departure of four players they feel must be offloaded in the summer.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana, who has faced criticism throughout the season for costly mistakes, was once again singled out, along with Luke Shaw, who failed to react quickly enough to prevent Johnson’s winning goal.
On X, one fan fumed: “Onana needs to be sold and never play for this club again, and Shaw.”
Another echoed the thoughts, writing: “Onana needs to be sold in the summer. Cannot command his defence!!!! Awful.”
And despite his heroics in the semi-final, many were also advocating for Mason Mount to be sold after failing to make an impact.
One commented: “We need to get rid of Mount man I’ve tried”.
A second agreed and called his showing “shockingly bad”.
And finally, fans again demanded that the experiment with Rasmus Hojlund comes to an end after he looked completely out of sorts leading the line in the Europa League final.
Hojlund was easily marshalled by Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven and after he and some teammates struggled, one user wrote: “If we’re serious about a solid rebuild next season, players like Shaw, Maguire, Onana, and Hojlund should be sold, even for peanuts.”
Another supporter followed up, saying Hojlund “should never have another game in a United kit and should be sold asap”.
