The young winger’s future at Old Trafford appears uncertain following his public criticism of manager Ruben Amorim after United’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
Garnacho was frustrated by Amorim’s decision to leave him on the bench for most of the match in Bilbao, only bringing him on as a substitute late in the second half to replace Mason Mount. ..Continue Reading
‘Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know,’ Garnacho told Argentine media after Man United’s loss to Spurs.
‘The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.’
Ahead of the match, Garnacho shared a picture of himself celebrating his goals from the previous year’s FA Cup final and Community Shield.
Following Manchester United’s loss in the Europa League final, his brother, Roberto, took to Instagram to criticize Ruben Amorim, expressing frustration over Garnacho’s limited role in the game.
‘Working as no-one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus,’ Roberto Garnacho wrote.
Amorim, meanwhile, defended his decision to bench Garnacho for the match against Spurs.
When asked if he should have brought Garnacho on earlier, Amorim said: ‘How many times have we had this conversation, and it was the opposite? Some players come in, like Mason Mount, against Bilbao and changed the game.
‘So now it is easy to say. Who missed the big opportunity in the first half against Bilbao? Yeah [Garnacho]. Of course, now it is easy for us to talk about a lot of views.’
Garnacho drew interest from both Chelsea and Napoli during the January transfer window, but neither club was able to finalize a deal with Manchester United, despite the club lowering their asking price.
Napoli, having recently sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, had been searching for a new winger but indicated that Garnacho’s wage demands contributed to the breakdown of negotiations.
Reports suggest that United are once again open to offers for Garnacho in the summer and are prepared to sell him for a set transfer fee.
Additionally, the club is looking to generate further funds by offloading Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford.
Garnacho remains under contract with United for the next three years.
