Cunha, thrilled by the move, expressed his excitement at joining the club he admired growing up, calling it a dream come true and pledging to work hard to help restore United’s status at the top.
He said: “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.
“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”
Cunha is expected to operate in one of the advanced midfield roles behind the striker in Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 setup, emphasizing Manchester United’s continued push to boost their attacking options.
The club is still hunting for a central striker, with Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres among those being considered.
Another long-standing target is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, a versatile forward who has been on United’s radar for weeks.
Despite Tottenham’s interest, United have maintained a verbal agreement with the Cameroon international.
INEOS is reportedly offering a significant wage to tempt Mbeumo to Old Trafford.
Fresh reports out of Spain suggest a deal is now very close. Talks with both the player’s camp and Brentford have ramped up, and after weeks of negotiations, there’s growing optimism that an agreement is within reach.
Amorim has given his approval, and although the final fee hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to be around Brentford’s valuation after an earlier offer was turned down.
