Following the £62.5 million arrival of Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo has become United’s top attacking target as Jason Wilcox looks to revamp an attack that endured its worst scoring season in over three decades. ..Continue Reading
The 25-year-old netted 20 Premier League goals last term—more than any United player managed across all competitions—making him a standout option.
Although Tottenham have entered the race, Mbeumo is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford. United’s initial offer of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected, with Brentford holding firm on their asking price.
The club hopes to finalize the deal before pre-season begins in July, allowing Mbeumo time to integrate into Amorim’s system.
However, United must also prepare for his potential absence during the African Cup of Nations, where he’s expected to represent Cameroon.
The tournament runs from December 21 to January 18, with Cameroon drawn in Group F alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique. Group matches fall on December 24, 28, and 31.
Should Cameroon progress, Mbeumo would miss Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Newcastle, Wolves, and potentially Leeds, Burnley, and Manchester City depending on how far his national team advances.
He’s not the only player United could lose to AFCON duty—Andre Onana, Noussair Mazraoui, and Amad are also likely to be called up.
