Acute gastroenteritis—commonly referred to as the stomach flu—is an illness marked by inflammation in the stomach and intestines. It often brings on symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and sometimes fever and dehydration. While most cases clear up on their own within a few days, more serious instances may need medical care, particularly to manage fluid loss.
Kylian Mbappe was left out of Real Madrid’s squad for their 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal in Miami. The club has since confirmed that he is in hospital undergoing tests after being diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis.
A statement released by Madrid on Thursday read: ‘Our player Kylian Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalised for various tests and treatment.’
Real Madrid are scheduled to play Mexican team Pachuca in their next group game on June 22 before facing Red Bull Salzburg on June 27.
