Alejandro Garnacho may have further strained his relationship with Manchester United supporters after being spotted wearing an Aston Villa jersey while vacationing in Ibiza.
The Argentine winger, who has reportedly been told by manager Ruben Amorim to find a new club, posted a collection of holiday photos on Instagram, including shots of him relaxing in the pool, enjoying the sea, and exploring Ibiza’s nightlife. ..Continue Reading
But one image in particular caught fans’ attention—Garnacho is seen from behind wearing a Villa shirt, notably featuring the name and number of his United teammate Marcus Rashford on the back.
Given the rivalry and his uncertain future at Old Trafford, the choice of attire has sparked fresh controversy among the fanbase.
Rashford, who spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Villa Park, enjoyed Garnacho’s post, commenting: “My brother [love heart emoji].”
It’s not something that’s gone down too well with United fans though, as one said: “Bang out of order to all of us who have backed you. It’s a big up yours to United fans.”
Another said: “So much for all the fans that supported you. I literally got your shirt last week as well.”
While this fan said: “He really put that Villa kit on and struck a pose like it was a statement. It is — just not the one he thinks.”
Garnacho’s future at Manchester United looks increasingly bleak, with his recent behavior reportedly unsettling figures within the club.
The 20-year-old drew criticism after storming off down the tunnel at Old Trafford when substituted during a February win over Ipswich Town.
Tensions escalated further when he posted a cryptic Instagram story seemingly aimed at manager Ruben Amorim’s lineup decisions ahead of the Europa League final—where he was left out of the starting eleven in the loss to Tottenham.
Adding fuel to the fire, Garnacho shared a sarcastic “Finally” caption on social media upon returning to Manchester after the club’s post-season tour of Asia, which didn’t sit well with fans or staff.
Despite the controversy, the winger remains a sought-after talent. Napoli are reportedly interested, and Chelsea had explored a move back in January.
Garnacho joined United from Atlético Madrid in 2020 at age 16 and signed his first pro contract in 2022. Over 144 appearances, he’s tallied 26 goals and 22 assists, winning both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
With United eager to raise funds for a summer overhaul, it now seems more a matter of timing than possibility when it comes to Garnacho’s departure.
