The Sporting Lisbon striker, who netted an astonishing 54 goals last season, has become one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe. ..Continue Reading
At one point, it seemed likely he would reunite with former manager Rúben Amorim at Manchester United, as the club continues its search for a more consistent striker than Rasmus Højlund.
While United remain interested, recent developments suggest Arsenal are now on the verge of finalizing a deal for the Swedish international.
Gyökeres, determined to leave Sporting and prove himself at the highest level, is reportedly frustrated by the club’s £70 million valuation, which he believes violates a prior gentleman’s agreement.
In protest, he has refused to report for pre-season training—and more surprisingly, has also ended his relationship with Portuguese actress Ines Aguiar.
The couple began dating in early 2024 and went public later that year, with Aguiar even promising fans she would try to convince Gyökeres to stay in Lisbon.
However, reports from Portuguese media claim the two have now split, with Gyökeres initiating the breakup to sever all personal ties to Portugal.
Speculation intensified when Aguiar did not attend the wedding of Sporting teammate Morten Hjulmand, a close friend of hers, while Gyökeres traveled alone to Mykonos and she vacationed separately in Formentera.
Sources close to the player say the decision was part of his effort to clear the path for a move to Arsenal, removing any emotional obstacles that might keep him in Lisbon.
A source said: “Viktor doesn’t want anything that ties him to Portugal, especially because he has already decided that he will not continue at Sporting next season.
“Before going on holiday, he spoke to Ines and explained what he felt. She was also prepared in a certain way, although it was something that was difficult for her because she liked him a lot.”
