Speaking to reporters afterward, Palmer admitted he was “a little bit confused” about the U.S. President’s lingering presence on stage.
The midfielder later posted on Instagram, featuring a photo of himself proudly lifting the trophy — noticeably without Trump in the frame.
His caption, stark and defiant, read: “Doubt us now.”
In addition to speaking at the press conference, Palmer also gave a post-match pitchside interview to DAZN, where the broadcaster quickly had to apologize for profanity aired during the segment.
The England international stated ‘everyone has talked a lot of s**t about us all season’, before adding: “It’s a great feeling [to win the trophy]. Even better because everyone doubted us before the game, we knew that.
“To put a fight on like we did, it’s good. I like finals. It’s happened again.
“The gaffer put a great gameplan out. He knew where the space was going to be. He tried to free me up as much as possible, and I just had to repay him and score some goals.”
Palmer added: “He is building something special, something important.”
