Having returned to United for pre-season, Rashford and four other players—Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia—are prohibited from training with the main squad and must report to Carrington at 5 p.m. instead.
All five players have been informed they should seek transfers elsewhere, and Rashford—despite being a lifelong United supporter and academy product—is unexpectedly linked with a possible move to Liverpool.
Liverpool have been notably busy in the transfer market but are still searching for a goal-scoring forward. Fabrizio Romano reports they’re planning to submit a record-breaking offer to Newcastle for Alexander Isak.
The proposed bid for Isak is around £120 million, but Liverpool have also identified backup options, reportedly enquiring about Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Yoan Wissa (Brentford), Victor Osimhen (Napoli), and Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt).
Additionally, they’re keeping an eye on Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo Goes, though Rashford’s name has also come up in internal discussions, according to *Daily Mail*.
Simon Jones reports that Rashford’s potential signing was merely “floated” during talks and, as of now, no formal progress has been made—indicating he’s a low-priority option.
A direct transfer between Manchester United and Liverpool hasn’t happened in over six decades, with Phil Chisnall being the last to make the switch in 1963.
Back in 2007, Sir Alex Ferguson blocked Gabriel Heinze’s proposed move to Liverpool, leading to the defender’s transfer to Real Madrid instead.
Although Rashford’s market value is now said to be £40 million, it seems unlikely that United would let him join their historic rivals for that price.
