Arsenal have made it clear this summer that they’re in the market for a marquee forward to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new campaign. ..Continue Reading
Names like Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, and most prominently Sporting’s Gyokeres have all been linked with a move to the Emirates.
Recent updates suggested Gyokeres was on the verge of joining Arsenal for an initial fee in the region of £55 million.
However, fresh reports indicate the transfer may collapse, with another Premier League club suddenly entering the race to hijack the deal.
Portuguese outlet SIC Noticias claims Manchester United, now managed by Ruben Amorim, have emerged unexpectedly and are close to finalizing terms with Sporting for Gyokeres.
The proposed fee is said to mirror Arsenal’s offer, with United likely to pay around £55 million for the Swedish striker.
As part of the deal, United—like Arsenal—would need to allocate £3.76 million to Coventry City due to a 10% sell-on clause from Gyokeres’ 2023 transfer.
Negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting have reportedly stalled over bonus clauses that could push the total fee closer to £65 million.
Sporting are said to be requesting four performance-based add-ons worth £2.16 million each, totaling £8.5 million.
While Arsenal are open to the structure, the two sides are at odds over the nature of the clauses, with Arsenal insisting at least one should be more demanding.
Meanwhile, United have been active in the market, having already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves and wrapped up a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
According to The Athletic, United agreed to pay up to £71 million for Mbeumo, who netted 20 goals in the Premier League last season.
