Arsenal are believed to be leading the chase for Gyokeres, ahead of Manchester United and Juventus, with fans speculating that the club hinted at his arrival during their kit launch.
United had shown strong interest in signing the 27-year-old as they searched for a new centre-forward ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
However, Amorim—who previously coached Gyokeres at Sporting—appears to have missed out on reuniting with him at United.
According to Portuguese outlet *Record*, Gyokeres was unhappy with how Amorim treated fellow Swede Victor Lindelof.
Both players are represented by Turkish agent Hasan Cetinkaya, and Lindelof was reportedly eager to extend his stay at United if offered a new contract.
Cetinkaya was also said to be frustrated with Amorim’s handling of Lindelof, especially after encouraging Gyokeres to work with the manager during their time at Sporting.
Gyokeres had joined Sporting from Coventry City in the summer of 2023, turning down multiple Premier League offers.
Sporting paid around £20 million for him after a prolific run in the Championship, where he scored 38 goals over two seasons.
Lindelof, on the other hand, arrived at Manchester United from Benfica in 2017 for £31 million.
He featured in 284 matches across all competitions but only played 25 times last season—his lowest tally since joining the club.
United released Lindelof this summer after his contract expired.
