However, they quickly found themselves trailing by two goals within the opening 20 minutes after Igor Thiago scored twice, before Benjamin Sesko registered his first goal for the club to reduce the deficit before the break.
Amorim’s men were given a chance to equalise when Nathan Collins was penalised for pulling Bryan Mbeumo’s shirt inside the box, but Bruno Fernandes’s following spot kick was saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.
The home side then sealed the win in added time as Mathias Jensen found the net, handing United their third Premier League defeat in six matches this season.

Since Amorim took charge at Old Trafford last November, United have yet to string together consecutive league victories, and the Portuguese coach has accumulated just 34 points from 33 top-flight games.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the loss, Amorim said: “Of course we want to win. We didn’t control the game. We played the game of Brentford. First balls, second balls, set pieces. All the crucial moments were against us. Tough to lose again but we need to think about the next one.
“The first goal was a long ball. We worked on that in the week, and on set pieces. We knew the long balls (were coming) and one touch they had the opportunity. We need to do better.
“We didn’t play our game. We only had control for some moments. But it was more or less all the same. We need to play our games, not the opponents, but they were stronger on that.”
Amorim’s underwhelming record has sparked debate across the football world, with speculation mounting over whether United will eventually decide to make a managerial change.
Micah Richards, a pundit and former Manchester City defender, believes Amorim’s insistence on sticking with the 3-4-2-1 setup could ultimately cost him his job.
Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “I think because Ruben Amorim is being so stubborn in what he’s trying to do, it could be the undoing of him down the line.
“We can talk about the owners backing him but ultimately it’s just not working.”
Richards added: “Shambolic. The system is hampering them. They’re not sure where they’re meant to be.
“In terms of the goals, there were individual errors. (Harry) Maguire was trying to play offside for the first one – there’s no point gambling there.
“For the second, (Matthijs) de Ligt doesn’t know where’s he’s going and Maguire isn’t sure where to position himself.
“It’s 100% confusion caused by playing that system. It doesn’t suit the players.”
