The Red Devils were struggling last October and stumbled their way to 15th place and a Europa League final, which they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao in May. ..Continue Reading
With both clubs enduring poor Premier League campaigns, that final carried weight. For the winners, a Champions League ticket and a reset. For the losers, a pressing need to rebuild.
That’s exactly what unfolded. Spurs have had their share of internal drama but are at least showing stability on the pitch.
United stuck with Amorim and invested heavily during the summer window, clearing out most of their fringe players, yet the shadows of the 2024-25 season continue to loom over their performances.
Their manager faces relentless criticism from pundits across platforms, and the longer his expected exit is postponed, the louder the commentary becomes.
The latest voice to chime in is former Sheffield United, Leeds United, and Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock, who offered a cheeky proposal to take over without compensation.
“Have you ever laughed as much in your life when he had the Subbuteo table on his lap?” asked Warnock on talkSPORT. Amorim was seen intensely focused on a tactical sheet during United’s embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.
“I’m looking at that and thinking ‘I cannot believe what he’s just done in front of the cameras’ I’ve seen it all’.”
United are clearly in trouble, but mocking a top-flight manager for trying to strategize—even if the moment seemed awkward—feels a bit harsh.
Fortunately, years of coaching have given the 76-year-old insight into what might revive the struggling club.
“I’m available if they’re struggling,” he added. “I won’t charge you, I’ll do it for nothing. Put my name in the hat.”
Warnock departed Huddersfield Town in September 2023 and later served as interim manager at Aberdeen for eight games in early 2024, winning twice.
