The team earned a crucial 2-0 result at Old Trafford, with Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko finding the net to relieve some of the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim. ..Continue Reading
Speculation before the match suggested Amorim’s position could be in jeopardy if United failed to beat Sunderland, following a poor run of form.
In response, Amorim made several bold tactical calls against Regis Le Bris’ side, including giving goalkeeper Senne Lammens his first start for the club.
Lammens joined United in a £18.3m transfer from Royal Antwerp during the summer, shortly after Andre Onana departed for Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan.
Bayindir had stepped in as the starting keeper but was benched on Saturday after a string of underwhelming displays, allowing Lammens the opportunity to shine against the Black Cats.
The Belgian seized the moment, delivering a composed performance that could earn him another start when United face Liverpool on October 19, following the international break.
After the win, Amorim praised Lammens for his composure and debut showing.
“I think he looks confident in the first game, but [the] important thing is that the teammates help Senne to have a good game, because everyone was focused, not a lot of mistakes, against a team that was really comfortable playing football. So, we did well, [it] was a good day for us,” said Amorim.
“When Senne arrived here, first of all, Altay was playing, and then he arrives, and you can feel it, that he needs to adapt. New country, new training, the pressure that you guys put on the goalkeepers is massive.
“So, it was like a little preparation for the guy to be ready to start his first game.”
Following the final whistle, fans noticed a meaningful exchange between Bayindir and Lammens.
The Turkish keeper was seen congratulating his teammate, offering a hug and a pat on the back.
It happened as United’s squad applauded the home crowd at Old Trafford.
Amorim will surely be pleased with Bayindir’s gesture, especially given past tensions with certain United players over attitude—some of whom were part of the so-called ‘Bomb Squad’ that exited the club earlier this year.
Supporters also commended Bayindir for his sportsmanship.
“The goalkeepers union is real, they all understand the pressure,” posted one fan on Reddit.
While another added: “That is the spirit we want.
“Who plays and who scores, just be happy for each other and celebrate each other success.”
