Adding to Amorim’s troubles, reports suggest that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has serious doubts about the current setup and is ready to depart if a managerial change isn’t made.
According to Fichajes, Mainoo no longer believes things will improve at United under Amorim.
While it may be far-fetched for the club to dismiss a manager based on one player’s stance, it highlights the extent to which the former Sporting Lisbon manager may have lost the dressing room.
It also points to Mainoo nearing the end of his spell with MUFC, especially after heavy speculation about his future during the summer.
This was followed by ESPN reporting that the promising England international could revisit the idea of leaving in the January transfer window.
Right now, it’s increasingly difficult to picture Mainoo staying at United.
When the environment becomes this strained, recovery is rarely straightforward, and a departure might be the best outcome for everyone.
The 20-year-old may have a better chance of reaching his full potential by restarting his journey elsewhere, similar to Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, who have found form through loan spells at Barcelona and Napoli this season.
Mainoo clearly has the talent to attract interest from top clubs, so waiting for United to stabilize may not be necessary.
