Chelsea welcomed Liverpool Legends to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with all proceeds benefiting the Chelsea FC Foundation and the Chelsea Players’ Trust.
Roberto Di Matteo’s squad featured Petr Čech, Gary Cahill, William Gallas, John Terry, Ramires, John Obi Mikel, Claude Makélélé, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Eden Hazard, and Diego Costa.
The Liverpool lineup, guided by Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Phil Thompson, and Sammy Lee, included Pepe Reina, Ragnar Klavan, Martin Škrtel, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly, Jay Spearing, Igor Bišćan, Fábio Aurélio, Yossi Benayoun, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, and Ryan Babel.
The friendly tone shifted when Skrtel made a firm tackle on Costa, who immediately got up and confronted him.
The referee initially calmed things down, but Costa later retaliated with a forceful challenge from behind after Skrtel had released the ball.
Costa was shown a yellow card, and his heated exchange with Skrtel prompted the commentator to remark, “I don’t mind this, as long as they don’t go over the edge”.
The former Spain striker also clashed with Martin Kelly, reacting aggressively following a tough tackle from the English defender.
