Man Utd fans praise Jamie Carragher after must-watch analysis of win vs Liverpool

Several Manchester United fans have taken to social media to praise Jamie Carragher.

Most United supporters are still basking in the joy of their team’s 2-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday — and rightly so.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, either side of Cody Gakpo’s equaliser, earned United a crucial win and their first away victory at Liverpool since January 2016.

The result also marked Ruben Amorim’s first back-to-back league wins since replacing Erik ten Hag in the autumn of 2024.

In a surprising twist, former Liverpool skipper Carragher offered glowing praise for Amorim and his team during his analysis segment ahead of West Ham United vs Brentford on Monday Night Football.

During the broadcast, the 47-year-old dissected United’s “low block”, which effectively stifled Liverpool and largely prevented them from breaking through the Red Devils’ defence.

“Ruben Amorim got his tactics absolutely spot on in this game in Anfield,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“There’s no doubt about that. That’s the only way they could win the game [by playing in a low block].”

He then focused on how “narrow” United’s back five were “underneath the ball”.

“Another really important point is nobody ever goes for the ball in behind in terms of a flick on or if Virgil Van Dijk misses it,” he added.

“So again, I mentioned Cunha being a little bit deeper than maybe a Sesko would be. So it was all about ‘maybe we don’t win the first ball, but we pick the second ball up’ here.”

Carragher, who ranks second on Liverpool’s all-time appearances chart with 737 games, also pointed out that both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk could have done more to track Mbeumo’s 31-yard run that led to the opening goal.

Despite his ties to Liverpool, United fans applauded Carragher’s tactical breakdown online.

One said: “I know many people don’t like him, but when it comes to analysis of game tactics he is always spot on.”

Another added: “Jamie Carragher with a brilliant analysis of how Man Utd beat Liverpool at Anfield.”

While a third claimed: “Carragher, that’s top analysis.”

Liverpool are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, while United return to Premier League action on Saturday against Brighton at Old Trafford.
