The Premier League title holders, despite heavy investment, endured their sixth loss in seven matches across all competitions on Wednesday night at Anfield, falling to Crystal Palace for the third time this campaign. ..Continue Reading
A brace from Ismaila Sarr and a goal from Jeremy Pina added to Arne Slot’s woes, eliminating Liverpool from the Carabao Cup in the fourth round.
Slot rotated his squad and introduced debutants Freddie Woodman and Kieran Morrison, while 18-year-old substitute Amara Nallo had a nightmare cameo, receiving a red card for the second straight senior appearance following his dismissal against PSV last season.
Liverpool’s only victory in their last seven fixtures was a 5-1 rout of Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, and their schedule intensifies with upcoming matches against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are “100 percent convinced that Arne Slot is the best manager to handle this situation” and continue to back the coach who led them to the title last season.
Romano also stated there is “very good communication on a daily basis” between Slot and the club’s senior leadership.
Meanwhile, some fans have expressed a desire to see Jurgen Klopp return, the manager who guided Liverpool to their sixth European title and ended a 30-year wait for a league championship.
Klopp, who left in 2024 with a win rate of 60.9% after “running out of energy”, recently appeared on the Diary of a CEO podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett, where he was asked about a potential comeback and didn’t dismiss the idea.
“I said I will never coach a different team in England,” Klopp replied.
“That means that if it’s Liverpool, yeah. Theoretically. I don’t even know exactly [what it would take it to return]. I love what I’m doing right now.
“I don’t miss coaching. I don’t. I do coach, but different. Not players. I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half, three hours. I don’t miss going to a press conference three times a week. Having 10, 12 injuries a week. Who misses that? I don’t.
“I don’t miss being in the dressing room, like in the sense that I didn’t have it often. I coached 1,080-something games, so I was in the dressing room very often.
“I like doing what I’m doing right now. And in my mind, only if I’m focused 100 per cent on it, I can do it really good.”
Should Klopp return, he would follow the path of Kenny Dalglish, who had two managerial stints at Liverpool, with his second beginning in 2011 and concluding in 2012.
Currently, Klopp serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, enjoying a more relaxed role that doesn’t involve daily coaching responsibilities.
Liverpool’s next fixture is on Saturday against Villa at Anfield, kicking off at 8pm, followed by a showdown with 15-time European champions Real Madrid on Tuesday.
They then head to Manchester City for a high-stakes encounter on 9 November.
