Last season’s finalists suffered their third defeat of the campaign to Crystal Palace, who secured a 3-0 win at Anfield against a rotated Liverpool lineup.

They followed that up with a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park in September, triggering a poor run of form for the reigning Premier League champions.
As a result, the future of Arne Slot has become a major topic of discussion among fans.
Liverpool are set to face Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday night, hoping to end a troubling streak of six losses in seven matches, including four straight Premier League defeats.
Despite the pressure, the club’s position on Slot remains firm, and the Dutch manager’s message to supporters has surfaced.
Beyond coaching concerns, Liverpool have also received suggestions for a potential successor to captain Virgil van Dijk.
Slot’s role is reportedly secure, with strong backing from the club’s leadership. His achievement of winning the league title in his debut season is still considered one of Liverpool’s recent highlights.
That success has earned him significant trust, and the club has no plans to make a managerial change during this difficult period.
This comes even after criticism for selecting a youthful squad against Palace in the League Cup.
Meanwhile, recent remarks from former manager Jurgen Klopp have added tension to Slot’s situation.
Speculation has grown about whether Liverpool might consider bringing Klopp back if Slot’s position becomes unstable.
Klopp, who stepped down in 2024 due to burnout, has hinted that a return could be possible under the right circumstances.
Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast in October, he said: “I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if [I did return], then it’s Liverpool. So, yeah, theoretically it is possible (that he could coach Liverpool again).”
Slot also addressed fans after some were seen leaving Anfield in the 70th minute during the Palace match. The early departures suggested waning support from parts of the crowd.
However, many fans remained and showed their backing by chanting the manager’s name. After the match, Slot expressed gratitude for the support and shared his optimism ahead of the weekend fixture against Villa.
“If you’re on a run of results like this, if you play for Liverpool, if you manage Liverpool, you know the pressure is there and I don’t think it has changed much after this loss,” Slot said.
“But if it did then maybe the most positive thing about tonight was that the position we were in, 2-0 down and we weren’t really pushing for a goal because we weren’t able to, the fans were behind the team, were supporting us.”
He continued: “That gives me the feeling that Saturday when our players will show how much it means to them, our fans will be incredibly supportive for us Saturday.”
