Before the start of the 2025–26 season, five individuals — Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Tyrell Malacia — were instructed to train separately from the senior squad after being informed they were not part of future plans. ..Continue Reading
In the weeks that followed, Rashford completed a season-long loan switch to Barcelona, while Sancho, Antony, and Garnacho finalized moves to Aston Villa, Real Betis, and Chelsea respectively near the end of the transfer window.
Malacia was the only one to stay at Old Trafford after a proposed loan to Elche in Spain collapsed.
Having battled a long-term knee injury that kept him out for over a year, the full-back has recently rejoined team activities. He was even named in the squad for United’s Premier League fixture against Brighton last month.
It marked his first inclusion in a matchday lineup since January, and Ruben Amorim offered praise for Malacia.
“I love all my players,” he said to MUTV. “I demand the same thing from all the players. He (Malacia) is working really well, he adapted really well to our team. For me, there are no favourites.”
Amorim continued: “If you work, you play for Manchester United. If you don’t, you need to work harder to get back on the pitch.”
It has now been revealed that Malacia’s return to first-team training was supported by United teammates, who “spoke in favour” of the Dutch defender, according to The Athletic.
Amorim reportedly considered their input.
Antony shares insight into his time in Man Utd’s “bomb squad”
The Brazilian winger, who transferred to Real Betis over the summer for a fee of £21.7 million, recently reflected on his spell at United, where he felt “disrespected” and had to stay in a hotel.
“They were very tough months in England, more than 40 days in the hotel, training separately. I feel like they disrespected me, but that’s not the point,” Antony told Onda Cero, as cited by Sport Witness.
“I don’t want to create controversy; that’s life. I’m very grateful for the club; there were bad times, but also good times, with two titles. My family travelled to Seville four or five days before the deal was finalised; I had the house rented.”
