During the summer, several clubs showed interest in Semenyo, but he reportedly turned down proposals from Manchester United and Tottenham, opting instead to commit to a new deal.
That contract included a previously undisclosed release clause, now revealed to be £65 million — a figure that clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal could meet to secure his signature.
At present, Liverpool are believed to be in pole position to land Semenyo.
Although he has openly expressed his childhood support for Arsenal, sources claim that Semenyo currently favors a switch to Liverpool.
According to Football Paparazzi, his preference is driven less by emotion and more by the opportunity to make an immediate impact as a regular starter — something he sees as more attainable at Anfield than the Emirates.
As the outlet’s insider put it: “For a player like Antoine, performing at the very top of his game, the choice won’t be sentimental. It’ll be about where he becomes a guaranteed starter – immediately. Right now, that club is Liverpool.”
With Mohamed Salah expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to AFCON duties, Semenyo would have a clear path into the starting lineup.
Another factor influencing his decision is the presence of Richard Hughes at Liverpool — someone who previously worked with him at Bournemouth and is now part of the Anfield setup.
While Liverpool appears to be his current preference, Semenyo has never shied away from expressing his admiration for Arsenal.
In an interview with The Athletic last year, the dynamic forward revealed his lifelong support for the Gunners and hinted at aspirations to join a top-tier club like them.
He said: “I am an Arsenal fan. I don’t conflict the two with my job.
“It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen, I need to prove it.
“Any team that plays Champions League, Europa (League) – that’s the aim. I know that’s not going to come with a click of my fingers, it’s going to take some time.
“It’s going to take goals. It’s going to take a lot of consistent performances. But I’ve worked all my life for that and I’m just going to continue working hard. That’s my mentality.”
These comments highlight his emotional connection to Arsenal, but professionally, his current ambitions seem to align more closely with what Liverpool can offer.
