Significant new signings will depend on whether the club can sell players, with Marcus Rashford among those rumored to be considering a move away.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that AC Milan plans to approach United with a loan offer for Rashford, willing to cover his reported £350,000-per-week salary.
Such a move would enable Amorim to secure a replacement, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein reporting that Amorim is prepared to pursue a loan move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.
However, Kolo Muani is not United’s top target for January—another PSG player is.
According to The Telegraph, Amorim’s main target is left-back Nuno Mendes, who he gave his professional debut at Sporting Lisbon before Mendes moved to PSG in 2022.
Mendes’ current contract at PSG runs until 2026, but he has yet to agree on a new deal. The Telegraph adds that PSG is ‘hopeful’ he will remain at the club.
The 22-year-old, who can play both left-back and left wing-back, is one of the most promising players in his position in European football, though his injury record is concerning.
According to Transfermarkt, the Portugal international has missed 58 games due to injury since the 2022/23 season, including 44 games missed due to a severe hamstring injury.
Reports about Mendes follow claims by RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins that Mendes is not indifferent to a move to Old Trafford, potentially opening the door for Amorim.
