Ruben Amorim fuels Man Utd quit fears with shocking four-word comment

Ruben Amorim has sparked renewed debate over his future at Manchester United after his post-match comments following the club’s shocking Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

United, winners of the tournament in 2023, were eliminated in the second round by the League Two side, who deserved their lead after going 2-0 up in regular time. ..Continue Reading

Although Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire managed to drag the game to penalties, Grimsby ultimately secured victory in the shootout.

As the Mariners celebrated a historic win, United were left to confront a troubling low point in their season.

Amorim, visibly shaken, offered no explanations in the aftermath, and his remarks only fueled growing speculation online that the former Sporting Lisbon manager might be questioning his role at the helm.

He acknowledged “something has to change” though it wouldn’t be “22 players again”.

“I think this is a little bit the limit. I think something has to change,” Amorim declared in a candid post-match evaluation.

“I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that’s it. [Tonight] I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. I think it’s really clear what they spoke, so let’s move on from this day.

“I think it was clear for everybody what happened today. The way we start the game without any intensity, we were completely lost. In this moment, we need to focus on the weekend and then we have time to think.”

Amid growing speculation online about Ruben Amorim’s future following Manchester United’s shock defeat to Grimsby Town, his comments after the match painted a very different picture compared to the resolute tone he struck back in May after the Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

In the wake of that painful setback, Amorim had made a firm and unapologetic statement, vowing to resign without demanding any payout if either the fans or the club’s board no longer believed in his ability to lead.

He said defiantly at the time: “If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation. But I will not quit again. I am confident in my job. As you see, I will not change anything in the way I do things.

“In this moment, I am not here to defend myself. It’s not my style. I have nothing to show to the fans. In this moment [I need] a little bit of faith.”
