Amorim has emphasized to the club’s hierarchy that he needs Gyokeres now, and cannot afford to wait until the summer. He is also expected to see Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee leave Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
Rashford is looking for a new club, while United are willing to sell Zirkzee to the highest bidder due to his poor form.
However, signing Gyokeres would cost United around £80 million, and this move will need approval from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers.
Gyokeres has become one of Europe’s most sought-after talents due to his impressive goal-scoring record with Sporting Lisbon.
He has netted 26 goals in 24 games this season, including a remarkable hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League in November.
The 26-year-old’s contract includes a release clause worth £80 million, and it is understood that Sporting president Frederico Varandas would demand the full amount if Gyokeres leaves mid-season.
