Several underperforming players need their futures decided, and it has been revealed that Christian Eriksen will be leaving United.
Eriksen joined United on a free transfer in 2022 and has made 88 appearances over two and a half seasons, including 16 in all competitions this season.
However, at 32 years old, the Danish international has struggled to secure a regular spot in Amorim’s team, which requires midfielders to cover space at a higher intensity.
The former Spurs and Inter Milan midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the club will not be offering him a new contract.
Eriksen was linked with a move last summer, with La Liga side Real Betis unable to finalize a deal, but a January departure is still a possibility for the former Brentford player.
“Manchester United have already decided internally that his contract will not be extended and that the Danish midfielder will leave on a free transfer in the summer – only a good proposal could change the story and see him leave in January,” Romano revealed to GiveMeSport.
“Real Betis were keen on signing Eriksen at the end of the summer window, but they were not able to agree on terms on both club and player side.
“In case a good club appears with a good proposal for the player, United could be open to facilitating his exit and move on from a signing strongly wanted by previous manager Erik ten Hag.
“However, Amorim’s vision goes in a different direction, as he wants intensity everywhere, especially in the midfield.”
Eriksen’s exit will free up a good portion of wages as he earns £150,000-a-week. Victor Lindelof is also set to move on after eight years with the Red Devils.
