Speaking in his post-match press conference, Amorim made an astonishing admission: ‘We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United.
‘In [the past] 10 games in Premier League, we won two. Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me.
‘We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.’
Since taking over from Erik ten Hag, Amorim has managed to secure only five wins in his first 15 matches, suffering seven defeats, which has left Manchester United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League.
Before the game, there were poignant moments as the Red Devils honored club legend Denis Law, who passed away at the age of 84 on Friday evening.
The iconic United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, laid a wreath in memory of his fellow Scotsman on the Old Trafford pitch. Before heading to his seat, he took a moment to speak with Amorim.

Ferguson also had a chat with Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler, who revealed: ‘Sir Alex Ferguson asked me take care of Danny Welbeck, who worked with him at United and so I will have to do that.
‘Very special, in my squad is one of his favourite players. We had a small exchange several weeks ago. One of the best coaches ever.’
