Ruben Amorim is reportedly “dissatisfied” with his current options at Manchester United and has urged the club to sign a long-term Chelsea target.
The initial excitement following Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford has faded, leaving United fans feeling disappointed and frustrated once again.
Despite securing a morale-boosting victory over local rivals Manchester City last weekend, United followed up with a Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham and a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth. ..Continue Reading
These setbacks mean that United have won less than half of their games since Amorim took over from the sacked Erik ten Hag.
After the Bournemouth defeat, Amorim acknowledged the challenge he faces and affirmed his readiness to do what it takes to bring United back to the top.
Implementing his ideas will take time, but he plans to make some signings and offload underperforming players starting in January.
Sky Sport Germany reports that Amorim is growing increasingly frustrated with his attacking options. Rasmus Hojlund is struggling to justify his £72m price tag, and Joshua Zirkzee has had a disappointing first six months in the Premier League.
Amorim intends to strengthen his attacking line in the January transfer window and has expressed a desire for Victor Osimhen to join the squad.
Osimhen has been a prolific goalscorer in Europe over the past three seasons, with 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli.
A major falling out with Napoli boss Antonio Conte appears to be ending Osimhen’s time with the Serie A club, and he joined Galatasaray on loan last summer. The 25-year-old moved to Turkey shortly after a move to Chelsea fell through.
Chelsea representatives were in Naples on transfer deadline day but couldn’t agree on personal terms with Osimhen. While he joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal, Napoli can recall the striker in January and sell him permanently.
According to Sky Sport Germany, Manchester United would have “no problem” reaching an agreement with Osimhen, but may struggle to negotiate a deal with Napoli, who reportedly value him at around 75 million euros (£62m).
This price is likely to be a stumbling block for United, who are also seeking a new midfielder and a left-back.
Selling players could increase their transfer funds, and United are reportedly ready to offload Marcus Rashford, who has barely featured under Amorim.
Currently sitting 13th in the Premier League, United will start the New Year with matches against Wolves on Boxing Day and Newcastle United on December 30.
