The 27-year-old has not played since being left out of the matchday squad for the Manchester Derby, though he returned to the bench for last Monday’s defeat against Newcastle.
It has been revealed that Amorim’s decision to drop Rashford was driven by rumors that the forward was out in Manchester the Friday before their clash with Everton on Sunday, November 1.
Although Rashford scored twice in the 4-0 win, Amorim quickly learned of the incident, leading to a candid conversation between the two, according to The Athletic.
Rashford had previously faced trouble for nights out, having been fined two weeks’ wages after being caught partying in a Belfast nightclub last January.
Despite Rashford denying the allegations of going out that night, his standing with Amorim has not improved since.
Rashford was benched for the following game against Arsenal midweek and has only started once since, in a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen.
With limited first-team opportunities under Amorim, the England international is contemplating his future at his boyhood club, recently admitting he is ready for a ‘new challenge.’
Rashford has already received lucrative offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia but prefers to stay in Europe to boost his chances of returning to the national team.
A move to Spain is reportedly appealing to Rashford, but other reports suggest Napoli is monitoring his situation and could include Victor Osimhen in a potential deal.
Rashford is expected to miss Sunday’s match against Liverpool, having not trained all week due to illness.
‘At the moment he is ill,’ confirmed Amorim. ‘He is not training and this week he is out.”
Asked about Rashford’s position within the club, he added: ‘It’s the same situation. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player and then I make a selection.’
