The loss, which could prove pivotal in Real Madrid’s season, has sparked speculation that the Spanish club may already have a successor in mind should Ancelotti fail to turn things around.
In response to the setback, the Italian manager issued a confident statement, revealing his mindset as he navigates this challenging period.
Currently, Real Madrid ranks 24th among the 36 teams in the Champions League standings, sitting four points away from the top eight teams that automatically advance to the next stage and only two points clear of the bottom 12 teams facing elimination after the group phase.
Meanwhile, Alberto Cerrutti, a close associate of Ancelotti and contributor to Gazzetta dello Sport, recently spoke on Cadena SER, sharing that he had contacted the Madrid coach for his perspective on the club’s current predicament.
“You can tell them anything you want, but tell them that Real Madrid will be in the final in Munich”, Ancelotti replied to Cerrutti’s message.
With many games still to be played before the Champions League final in May 2025 in Munich, Carlo Ancelotti remains optimistic about his team’s chances, despite their shaky start to the campaign.
However, it appears the club’s leadership is less convinced. Reports suggest they have already identified a potential successor for the 65-year-old should results fail to improve.
COPE journalist Roberto Morales claims that former Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has been lined up for a sensational return to the Bernabeu if Ancelotti is let go.
Adding to the speculation, the former Madrid midfielder was seen in the stands at Anfield on Wednesday, hinting at a possible comeback following his brief tenure as manager during the 2018/19 season.
“Solari is the chosen option if things don’t get back on track and there is a big setback in the coming months,” Morales posted on X.
However, he added: “I don’t see Ancelotti being dispensed with. His successes, the importance of his figure, should not open a debate to at least complete the season.”
