Real Madrid had initially surged ahead with an early goal from Rodyrgo at the 12th minute, igniting excitement among the visiting supporters.
However, Manchester City equalized, pushing the game into extra time when Kevin De Bruyne scored in the 76th minute.
Despite Manchester City dominating the game with greater possession and more shot attempts, Guardiola displayed sportsmanship by warmly congratulating Ancelotti when the match ended, even though it meant his team’s aspirations for a treble were dashed.
Speaking to Movistar, Ancelotti revealed that Guardiola offered his congratulations to Real Madrid and extended his best wishes for their continued success in the tournament.
“We started well, went ahead and then we had to fight to survive, we had to suffer,” he said.
“City had control because we defended too deep. “By the time the penalty shootout came, we were totally convinced we’d go through.
“This is about the only way you can come to City and win. “You work, sacrifice and win however you can. Pep Guardiola is a gentleman, always has been.
“He congratulated us, wished us good luck and that’s what a real gent does. “We defended really, really well tonight. This was about survival.
“Madrid is a club based on always fighting to stay in situations where there seems to be no way out – but we always find a way.”
Jude Bellingham, the standout player from Real Madrid, expressed his thoughts following the game’s outcome.
The English midfielder acknowledged his elation over the victory, highlighting his composure during the tumultuous atmosphere at Etihad Stadium.
“It’s relief. You put so much into the game,” he said.
“I’ve played against City before and they snatch it away from you. I was pretty much dead on my feet at the end.
