Following the Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona, Ancelotti mentioned that his future would be addressed in the coming weeks, not immediately.
Brazilian representative Diego Fernandes attended the game in Seville and is negotiating on behalf of the CBF.
Reports suggest the CBF wants Ancelotti to take over from Dorival Junior this summer, with Ancelotti reportedly open to the role.
He is seen as the top candidate, ahead of Al-Hilal’s Jorge Jesus. This marks the second time the CBF has pursued Ancelotti, after their initial approach last year ahead of the Copa America.
During his tenure at Real Madrid, Ancelotti secured two LaLiga and three Champions League titles.
However, with Barcelona favored to win LaLiga this season and Madrid eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, the Italian coach’s future has come into question.
Xabi Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, is the frontrunner to succeed Ancelotti.
Alonso, who spent five successful years at Real Madrid as a player, winning titles like the 2011/12 LaLiga and 2013/14 Champions League, has emerged as a preferred candidate.
Though Alonso lacks a formal release clause, it is believed Leverkusen will not prevent his departure, as he enjoys a strong rapport with their leadership, including CEO Fernando Carro. Real Madrid, however, may need to pay over £10 million in compensation.
Contrary to reports suggesting Jurgen Klopp as a contender, GMS confirms Alonso remains Real Madrid’s top choice should Ancelotti exit.
