Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly planning to step down as Real Madrid manager at the end of the season.

This season, Real Madrid leads La Liga after 20 games but suffered a heavy defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final and have won only three of their six Champions League group stage matches so far.
According to Spanish journalist Edu Pidal from Radioestadio Noche, Ancelotti is set to leave the club in the summer, regardless of any further success.
Pidal claims Ancelotti’s departure is already decided, even though the Real Madrid hierarchy, led by president Florentino Perez, would prefer him to honor his contract until the summer of 2026.
Ancelotti is not considering retirement and aims to coach in another country.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is favored to replace Ancelotti, with the former Real midfielder having been linked to the role last summer.
Alonso was also considered a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but chose to stay at Leverkusen, where he had an unbeaten Bundesliga season, won the DFB-Pokal, and reached the Europa League final.
The Spaniard, who has a contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions until the summer of 2026, told reporters: “I feel this is the right place to be for me as a young coach. My job at Bayer is not over. I want to help the club, help the players to develop, the board is great. It’s all fantastic here.”
