Andreas Christensen sent home from international duty after injury blow

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has left the Danish national team and is back in Stamford Bridge after a fresh injury problems.

The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular in the first-team under Antonio Conte this season, he was surprisingly absent from the Denmark team that beat Panama on Thursday.

When asked about Christensen’s absence after the 1-0 victory, Denmark manager Age Hareide said he has a knock and has returned to Chelsea to undergo treatment.

‘Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London,’ Hareide said. ‘We do not want to take any risks with him.

‘We have called up Peter Ankersen and Lasse Nielsen, so we are adequately covered in defence.’

Asked further on the nature of the 21-year-old’s injury, Hareide continued: ‘I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue.

‘It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.’

Christensen is believed to have a small strain though still wanted to play, as the youngster is keen to prove himself for the Denmark national team.

Chelsea will now hope the Denmark international will be fit in time to face Tottenham at Stamford Bridge when fixtures in the Premier League resume.
